| Feel sorry for the people being made redundant, and it's obviously not right for one of the ten biggest cities in the country not to have it's own airport, but coventry airport was a shithole, which basically consisted of 2 portakabins. An airport is not a necessity for the city with birmingham 19 miles down the road.
I feel more sorry for the staff where i work at the caludon centre who are being forced into redundancy if they're over 60 years old, now that's bullshit. Literally, if you are over 60 years old, you HAVE to take redundancy. The health service is in shit state as it is and because coventry & warwickshire trust pissed money up the wall building that hospital it's people who have given the vast majority of their working lives to the service that get fucked over

I still tend to feel more sympathy for the families who have had relatives killed by laziness and incompetence in that shithole than the people (SOME of whom) who have contributed to those unnecessary deaths. But despite that, you're right - it's always the little people who get shafted rather than the totally useless dickheads who are put in charge. Come the glorious day of the revolution citizen.............

But you're right you can get a train to Brum International that takes a mere 10 minutes. Plus In think Cov is only 12th biggest in the country, but that may just be nitpicking. But that is disgraceful that people over 60 have to take redundancy at the hospital, shocking.

| Em was in the old hospital before they pulled it down and you could tell they had given up cleaning it properly. They Managed to infect her wound in the recovery ward, keeping her in hospital longer and away from work for a further 6 months. | |

That's not very P.C, i prefer the spaz wing... Na, it's the windowlicking wing Yeah Caludon Centre is purely mental health, dunno if they're doing the same thing at the general hospital, but it is disgraceful. And as if to make it more subtle, i'm based at gulson hospital at the minute where the community mental health teams are, and the bosses were walking around asking the nurses when they think they're going to retire! So if anyone answers, 'errrr....next couple of years, why?' i imagine they'll be asked to take redundancy as well. And screamo, i think Cov may not be in the top 10 cities in the UK, but it is in the top 10 cities by population in england, depends on what you classify as a country innit, but that's a whole other debate Altho as far as i'm aware, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is a country, and England, N. Ireland, Scotland and Wales are countries within a country, not states or provinces

- New airport option
9.7 As conceived in the consultation document, this option would provide the Midlands with a major new hub airport, located between Coventry and Rugby. Such an airport would be able to provide more air services from the Midlands to a greater range of destinations than under any other scenario. In order to be viable, however, it would require the existing Birmingham International Airport to close, its site to be redeveloped, and significant constraints to be imposed on airport capacity in the South East.
9.8 Because the new airport option is located in a much more sparsely populated area than Birmingham International, it would bring about a large net reduction in the number of people affected by aircraft noise. On the other hand, a large airport on a greenfield site would have significant negative environmental and social impacts. These include the potential loss of two villages and 150 properties, damage to a range of heritage resources arising from the need to re-contour significant areas of land to create a platform for the development of the airport, increased flood risk in the Avon river corridor and concerns about potential bird-strike hazard. There would also be the need for major investment in surface access links.
9.9 These issues were just some of the many concerns raised in responses to the consultation, and the general public and stakeholders of all types from across the region were overwhelmingly opposed to the new airport option.
9.10 Taking account of these impacts, the major question marks over the viability of the proposals in the light of decisions about runway capacity elsewhere and the large number of comments received, the Government has come to the view that there are better ways of accommodating likely demand in the Midlands. We therefore do not support the option of a new airport between Coventry and Rugby.
For anyone interested this is a section of the governments white paper on aviation in 2003, these are the main reasons it couldn't expand, it basically would have been pointless I did an essay on this a year or two ago so i thought I'd chuck the facts in for you
