| "The other big surprise of the nominations was the absence of The Dark Knight from any major categories save an expected Best Supporting Actor nod for Heath Ledger, though the box office hit did get eight nominations in all, mostly in technical categories."
Thought it would have at LEAST been in the Best Film category. But nope nothing....

| It honestly did good getting what it got, the oscars are far to pretentious to care about popular opinion. | |

| if it had won everything people would have said it was only cos Heath Ledger died anyway, its a no win situation | |

| I don't know. I think anyone who's seen the film would appreciate he deserved an Oscar - it was an insanely good performance from him. He was also very good as Ned Kelly in the 2003 film of the same name, at only 24, and produced an award winning performance in Brokeback Mountain, so he wasn't without legitimate credentials for an Oscar.
Thing is, each year the Oscars are hosted by a different studio and what you'll find is that studio's movies tend to get more than an average showing in the awards.
I remember that year Titanic won all those awards.... historically and factually a load of bollocks and racist to boot. But it won all the awards. Titanic was a Fox film and guess who was hosting that year's Oscars? The film's only saving grace was the slick computer graphics.
That same year the brilliant 'Mrs Brown' (Ecosse Films/Miramax - NOT a Fox film) had also been released and despite being hotly tipped was snubbed by the awards apart from a nomination for Judi Dench and two nominations for best makeup.
Proves the Oscars are yet another awards thing that is a joke - it's not just Coventry (Tongue very firmly in cheek).
I absolutely hate it when the yanks 'do' history. Remember 'U52'? In 200 years from now, the kids at school will have such a fucked up view of history, but I guess that's what it's all about isn't it?

Scum. AND he looks like a geriatric over-botoxed Baboon's arse. Oh, and Deal........ don't want to pull you up on your spelling, but it's 'DETEST'

| I admit i liked it at the time. I'm interested in the story of the ship, however the filmed dated quickly and "A Night To Remember" is such a better film about Titanic. | |
