I personnally think it's worth it for the two days, but not the Saturday on it's own.

OK. So let's see what you can get for 20 quid these days......

An evening at the cinema?

Half a night out at the Cashbar?

Couple of CDs?

Half a PS3 game?

The arms and collar from a City shirt?

A curry for two?

A whole weekend of 40+ of the best live bands and DJs in the area on two fully spec stages with the high end sound systems, lighting - don't worry about getting home pissed either cos you can camp for TWO quid and enjoy the whole thing while only paying WMC prices for your beer?

I do understand the concerns though. So here's an offer - we'll provide all the staging, lighting, sound, tents, fencing, security, the field, licences etc, we'll do all the organising, paperwork, installation, event management etc, take all the stress, risk, hassle, on top of our daytime jobs etc, we'll keep all the drinks prices etc down to normal levels increasing our risk factor, and you can all come in for what... say £5? Hey why don't we make it completely free? And give away free beer?

Hell, you can even queue up to bend us over and butt-fuck us on the main stage round about teatime if you like.

Sorry guys - don't take this the wrong way but anyone who's too cheap to pay LESS THAN 20 QUID for all that, is more than welcome to not turn up if they don't like it - it really isn't any loss to us

Where can you find that type of space in the city centre for that size of event without it costing an arm and a leg?

Glastonbury is in the centre of which city ?

Sorry - that probably sounded a lot more arsey than it was meant to - I'm feeling more exasperated than arsey to be honest.

Coventry has turned its back on the very same artists who helped put Godiva on the map. We've provided an alternative for these bands to play on as near a festival stage as is practical or possible. It's hugely expensive and hugely risky and if profit were the motivation we just wouldn't even entertain the idea because there's little or no profit involved.

My initial feeling was that a tenner would frighten people away, but from the feedback we've had this doesn't seem to be the case and when you look at what you're getting it's actually fantastic value for money.

I'm just absolutely exasperated with the attitude - what have we got to do to keep people happy?

15 quid for a whole weekend is incredibly cheap (4-5 beers at Godiva??)

Yes. We've already found out first hand why independent promoters don't put on larger scale events in or near the city centre of Cov

Perceived value for money, if someone likes a good chunk of the bands then a tenner is cheap, if they're only going to see one (unsigned) band then it's too much.

Not 'perceived' at all - it IS great value for money. Saturday works out to just 33p per band

Why on earth would anyone even dream of going to a festival featuring over 40 acts, just to see one band and then moan because they have to pay the full day price to get in? It's like buying a cake, taking one small bite then moaning because you've had to pay for the whole cake. - Selfish twats.

If they want to watch just one band they're welcome to - but it will cost them a tenner for the privilege and if they don't like it they can suck my oversized, wrinkly cock!

Dont get me wrong, i support this and have helped with it im just stating that for ME a tenner is too much to see the 3 or 4 bands i fancy seeing, it isnt just a tenner either, drinks, food and whatever on top you are looking at much more. The Glastonbury comparison is crazy talk n'all.
Of course this is nigh on impossible to do in a city centre but the amount of people i have talked to have said they would go if it was a fiver is massive in comparrison to the amount that are happy to pay a tenner. Like i said i really hope it goes well and i wouldnt have put forward bands if i didnt think it could but this is just my 2 pence worth

I get your point, but what exactly do people want? They want it all for nothing and we can't give it them for nothing, cos strangely enough, these things cost a fair few quid to put on.. They don't like it if we make a profit but are quite happy if we don't cover costs and end up in debt

But they'll happily go and spend even more on a weekend out at the Cash bar - how much to get in? How much per drink? Taxi home? Kebab? Keresley probably wouldn't cost you any more than that if you work it all out.

The Glasto comparison isn't crazy either - would anyone in their right mind pay £185 to go and see ONE band?? No, course not and I'm sure the organisers aren't pitching the festival at those people either.

And I don't know what you're bothered about anyway Miffy - you're on a weekend pass anyway Very Happy

Not gonna pay your bus fare though - cheapskate Very Happy

I appreciate the pass mate but its my last weekend with Josh till his mom moves him to London and things possibly get abit sketchy so im gonna do me and him stuff instead. Its a real shame but cant be helped.

Glastonbury has had decades to sell itself to people who dont actually like music but want to say they have been, so infact a huge chunk are paying close to £200 to see no bands.

knowing how much the Kfest guys need to make to break even i would say a tenner in is a fair reflection, its a good line up and i really hope they get the attendance they need to break even.

met Dicko this weekend and he's explained the set up and if its true then we are all in for a treat, as performers and as audience.

I'm there for the weekend, with my kid on the saturday and intend on getting my tenners worth.

Smile

saw dicko at the belgrade flyering the crowd (perfectly fine, would've been nice to have had some fringe support prior to the event mind rather than the silence we got) and today at the park so fingers crossed it brings more in

most of my lot will pay on the weekend

good luck with it John, hope its a huge success and EE do our bit to make it acers Smile

Saw the kersley team flyering the be-jesus out of Godiva. Fair play!

Regarding the £10 fee I can see valid points from both sides of the argument. I personally would have kept it a fiver for at least another year to try double the amount of people there from last year. But considering the amount of work and cost involved a tenner don't seem so bad.

Either way I'm sure john and dick know what they are doing and I hope it'll be a great day! Very Happy

Yeah, sorry about this Rig - it wasn't intentional. Just didn't know a lot about it, being closed in my little bubble here with my Keresley head on and an ever increasing workload. Just didn't think mate.

I think in future maybe we need to treat all the 'music scene' organised events as joint ventures on the promo front - I think we could all benefit from a little of that. Maybe even create an 'umbrella collective' of independent event organisers/promoters who advertise/promote together, reducing the costs of mass promo - I don't know, it's a thought.

Again, my apologies mate - next time we're all doing things, let's talk. We could have done a double-sided flyer this year - k2010 and the fringe - we've got rid of about 20,000 so far in Cov & Warks
