| What age do people think its time to call it enough when your unsigned?
Or is there a signed band out there you think should have retired by now?

| Age is all relative, perception is reality, see the Fratellis for an example.
I don't think ages matter, Seasick Steve says hello.

| depends how long you've been going to be fair, if you started well young and you're still slagging around the same songs round the same local venues fifteen years later without a hint of getting signed then you may as well just start doing covers and that, make a bit of money from it. yet if you're that bit older and you've just started out and you seem to be getting a good following it be stupid to end purely because you reach like 35 or something.
Having said that like i think the key is whether you're genuinely still enjoying it, if you're 50 and playing shitty songs in shitty venues, yet you absolutely love it and look forward to every gig so much, then who is anyone to tell you to stop? once the fun goes then thats the time to start a new band that'd interest you/make you money, or just take up gardening

| I agree with Stuart, if you enjoy what you do, then what does it matter how old you are. Just don't keep on thinking that you're the next big thing, because unless you are extremely lucky, that shit just isn't going to happen. | |

| saw a band last year that sounded/looked/acted like theyd been together a month and must have been about 50+... they were crap when it gets to that stage dont START a band, its probably also a good time to give up... | |

| Its bollox to put an age limit on doing things you enjoy. If your 50+ who gives a fuck? If watching a band of 50 year olds isnt your bag dont watch em, my nan would would love it. When I get to 60 years old I probably wont want to watch whatever music is popular at the time. Because of ageist attitudes in the industry it has become almost impossible to get a deal once the band is past the age 30 or so. | |

Because of ageist attitudes in the industry it has become almost impossible to get a deal once the band is past the age 30 or so. the other 3 bands on the bill were about 25/26. probably down to crap promotors trying to come back on the scene after buggering off. everyone at the gig was under 30 and the band were AWFUL... reminded me of my dads band from when he was in his 20s. and he left because the style of music was cack and they were arrogant fucks...... over 50s bands are fine if they have an ounce of talent and bring their fans to gigs......

Agreed Think it depends on how long the band's been going and whether the long term objective is to actually get signed, if you just wanna play and see what happens then great, but if you've been going for years trying to get signed and it hasn't happened it can take it's toll. Sometimes things just need freshening up too
