Finally got to watch Cloverfield.......

It started out and I thought "Oh no - I hope the whole film isn't going to be that shit 'home video' type of thing!". And it was.

BUT.... I have to take my hat off to the makers - this was done brilliantly, sheer genius! The first half hour or so sets out to establish the background to the story and doesn't appear to make that much sense. But DO stick with it, if you haven't seen it, because everything starts to make sense..... but only to the degree it's meant to make sense. You're hooked before you know it! To get the whole storyline across on film and make it look random and naturally amateur is an incredible achievement. And the great thing is, it doesn't seem to pay much more than a passing nod to the Hollywood 'conventions' - it's totally unpredictable, as real life is.

Sorry Deal - Dark Knight was a great film, mainly because of Heath Ledger's Joker performance. Apart from that it's pretty standard fare. This film is intelligent, unpredictable and realistic. One of the most gripping films I have watched for a long time

Why me? i love cloverfield, went to see it twice at the cinema.

And i agree, i love the rollercoster vibe to it, its intense fast and furious.

Jon mate, have a butchers at the back story and stuff that you would have missed first time round in the background via t'net, makes it a much much better film

I really don't mind that "home video" type of thing. For me it just makes it scarier...
But then again I'm pretty sure I'm the only person who thought the Blair Witch Project was scary...

Cloverfield is a ace film and I am glad that I am not the only person on this forum who thinks that the home video thing is awesome and yes blair witch is a wickid film

I really liked cloverfield, when i seen it at the cinema, one thing that made it stand out was that it just felt so real and genuinely like you were there. Dunno how much of that 'feel' it loses without surround sound though.

I recently got to watch dark knight and i thought it was really good and to be perfectly honest, you can not fault heath ledgers performance in it, deserved his award. HE would have got it anyway even if he was alive.

Erm......... scuse me tit-fuck features, but I didn't express an opinion on Cloverfield other than to say that I had tried to watch it before but found the first bit hard going so gave up and watched something else. And as I DID point out in my comment above, you do have to stick with it, which is what I eventually did. So NERRRRR!

I'm really NOT a fan of the whole 'home video' type thing because it has an overly chaotic edge to it which I find frustrating, but this was just so excellently executed.

Unfortunately, it's probably too clever to win anything major and doesn't have any of the cardboard cut-out actors that pass for 'A-listers'. Shame cos it's one of the best things I've seen for a while.
