Just thinking about thee old days at the cross and how that place used to be a fantasic venue/pub. Remember going in there every Saturday to watch bands before heading to the Colly. Nowadays i dread going in there, always dead, no decent bands on, no quiz (that i wish to be part of) Shame...

Agreed, same goes for the jailhouse, used to love that place

I used to like the cross but I could never feel totally at ease in a place that doesn't have a decent place if you need to have a dump!

I did like it's Zombie cocktail though

I just meant I like to know that if I'm in a pub or club etc the toilet needs to be decent. Weird I know, but not to much to ask!

However, it didn't matter how "prepared" I was for gigs, when I played at the Cross, I always had to go beforehand. A real shitter! heh

Damn it we need a decent mid sized venue in Cov. Anybody know what's going on with Blok, it's gone very quiet.

i once stood with raff while he had a shit, except it was outside the cross, in the cathedral grounds, and he used his sock to wipe his arse, thats how bad the toilets were in the cross

some good sessions had in there though

I'd hardly call Blok a 'mid-sized' venue and thats the problem. Local nights arent going to work in the main room because apart from Pint Shot Riot there are no local bands that can fill a 750 capacity room.

What Cov needs is a new Jailhouse.

When my OH was promoter at The Cross, he was constantly having words with the then owner about the state of the toilets, but he took no notice. I think he was of the opinion that gig-goers and bands would put up with shit-holes (literally). What a cock he was.

I didn't call Blok mid-sized. It just in the same sentence as it occurred to me that nothing seems to be going on.

I have since found out that they're using another facebook account to advertise, which I have now found. Are you still involved Ciaran, because they haven't updated their official website since they opened.

And I do agree that the city does need another Jailhouse. Martin and myself are going scouting soon, to find a place that before now hasn't been a venue or at least not a usual spot.

Does the Cross even have a promoter these days?!? A few years ago it used to be heaving all the time, now its a cheesy metal stink hole left to simmer.

Rosie Malones could be just as good a gig venue but (apart from Reids lot) doesn't seem to be much going on.

I couldn't even tell you whats going on with the cross these days. The place is dead to me. Last time i checked it was a metal band only place. Pass

My days of going there are well and truely over.

The last time we went was the night we (Jim and I) took Sean to the strip club for the first time and we swung by for his dutch courage...fanny!

Blok looks very promising. John took me round and showed me what they had planned for the very near future.

It looks like Blok will be THE venue for bands of all levels with different size rooms to suit the kind of event - 3 venues in one place effectively.

Cov has suffered from shit promoters and shit venue owners for far too long. Corky's the only one for years worth the salt. Other than him there's been nobody else.

And I'm with Neil on the shitter issue - it was a real issue for me at the Cross because it DID put people off. The argument I used to get from the owner was "do you know how much it would cost to put them right?" and my argument always was "do you know how much it's costing you NOT to put them right?". You can't win against a closed mind.

Some of you may remember me predicting the current state of live music in Cov about 5 years ago? And you may also remember me getting ridiculed over it.
