| Is the work still being done on the venue, I walked past where I thought it was last night but couldn't tell. It's the same building as Carey's right? | |

| No mate next door to Careys, the old Tam OShanter/Jolly Beggars Club. The one with skips out the back and a team of 30 odd workmen in and around it! | |

| I really like the sound of the place and I'm hopeful for things to come, but I'm not sure when to check it out because no of the events so far do anything for me.
Who are the Coventry bands? and what's Eat My Beat? type of music to be specific.

| Xmas Eve will be:
Shadowplay The Ripps This/Broadcast The Youth
Its £5 Entry for the public however im extending the NUS discount of £4 to Coventry musicians for Xmas eve night to give the music scene an opportunity to come and check the venue out, have a drink, enjoy the bands and make a bit of a local night of it.
Eat my beat involves several rooms, the main room playlist is dependant on the DJ but ranges from Northern Soul and Funk to Dance and Indie Classics.

This place will be what the bands make it, if the bands of cov want a venue that gives a shit, pays them for what they do and shows how bands should be treated then they need to get behind us and make it work. The rewards will be worth it.
Will also make other venues raise the bar hopefully.

They're either a question or just a general statement, nothing negative about them at all. For the quotes of mine you've used I was simply putting forth that I want to go it's just nothing so far is pulling me in, I am going on christmas eve despite the bands not doing anything for me mainly to support the venue / check it out. My only concern is what the venue offers me as a consumer (NOT a musician), I've always lived in cov, I love cov and I want places to go that meet my consumer demands and at the moment I'm reserving judgement on Blok until I check it out.

| From a quick scan of the line ups less indie and more everything else, obviously that's an individual request and I understand it's not a reasonable one considering your predicted clientele. | |

Thats not Negative, it just means Dan is not allowed out IN ONE! And my comment about the Ripps was more of a query than negativity. I really want to check this place out as it could be immense. I'm not currently in an originals band and given my own time constraints it's unlikely for the foreseeable future. But I still want to see it do well and give the Kasbah, etc a well deserved kick up the arse. Ciaran, what's the liklihood... likelehoo... what's the possibility of a local promoter putting their nights on at Blok, this isn't for me but a mate?

Ciaran, what's the liklihood... likelehoo... what's the possibility of a local promoter putting their nights on at Blok, this isn't for me but a mate? Depends on who it is, their background, methods and success really mate. So someone that has proven abilities as a promoter really. Cant really imagine the floor being open to someone that's put a gig on at The Cross and got 12 people in. Its a 750-1000 capacity venue and for it to work and be cost effective it needs to be at least half full. There is however a downstairs bar and also a downstairs 'function' room is currently being worked on as well so there could be the opportunity for smaller enterprises being approached. Another alternative is maybe for the first night instead of just giving the night to a promoter he works with myself or John on the night and we assess the future based on that event. All speculative however, but tell Martin he's welcome to give me a shout. In terms of The Kasbah, we're not looking at putting ourselves in direct competition with them any more than the Warwick Arts Centre or The Assembly are. Theres 310,000 people in this city, they shouldn't have just 1 decent central live venue to choose from! We'll be doing things a lot different to other venues, on live nights the artist comes first there's a lot of bands that think they know how a gig should work but actually don't have a clue. Bands will be expected to leave their egos at the door and they can pick them up again as they walk on stage to perform to their audience, in return you'll get a venue and stage/production team that respect you, nurture you and treat you as an artist as opposed to chucking you a crate of beer and leaving you to it. If we say we're going to pay you then we'll pay you. If there are certain nights that require the assistance of ticket sales then we'll request it but it wont be mandatory and you'll be financially rewarded for the help. We'll act as a good venue should act and we expect the artists to be professional, combine these 2 and we should have some shit hot nights.
