| I've been on holiday, came back this morning.
Is getting insanely quiet too often though, what annoys the most is the fact that we have lots of visits, it's just nobody wants to say owt (or repeat what they've already said on facebook).
Perhaps need to make a bold move of somekind, gotta think about it.

| You know what, I've been thinking about this, and I'm not sure it really is facebook that's killing forums, its probably a factor obviously, but the main reason I've rarely been on here lately is having a phone with decent internet. Rather than opening up the laptop/desktop and waiting for it to start up I just check what I want on the phone, and the trouble is that forums don't come up to great on phones, the fonts etc are just too small so there's loads of zooming to do even just to to click on the right page, never mind write comments. Its not even that big a deal but its just enough to make me think 'ah feck it I'll have a look some other time'.
It also seems that checking the net on your phone is just a quick thing to do whilst watching tv whereas previously I'd sit at the desktop on the net all night with a few forums open, just chatting shit whilst listening to tunes, so perhaps that bringing of the net into the living room with ever smaller devices may reduce peoples 'quality time' on the net.
Reckon I'm going to try to spend time actually sitting on the desktop a few times a week now, missing out on loads of websites I actually enjoy (I didn't even realise twitter had changed so dramatically) plus its a good chance to listen to more music.

| See, I don't bother with Facebook that much cos I find it really sad. But on the odd occasion I do go on there I'll pass two hours in the blink of an eye, just flitting around reading lots of totally irrelevant shyte.
I think those of us who have an IQ should just discipline ourselves to not submit to Facebook so often

| Just to let you guys know some serious thought is being given to making 2010 the last year of this forum, we'd rather no forum than one that's quiet. | |

| there's no denying forums have been hit hard, this place has actually done surprisingly well i think compared to the others i frequent, perhaps its the lighthearted, non music/band related themes which has helped.
be a shame to lose it but i understand your angle on it

| I hope it isn't the end of the Hermesh.
You know when we did the biggest cunt comp? We had that knockout table didn't we. Why don't we do an internet quiz whereby a 'quizmaster' asks the two contestants to find certain things on the internet, like a picture, the answer to a question etc and the first one to post the correct answer gets the point.
We could do it on a knockout table like before until we end up with Internet Guru of 2010.
Here's one.... Find a website that supplies kettle leads for less than £2.50 each - you have 5 minutes
or.... go to www.xxxxxxxxxxxx.com and play xxxxxxxxxxxxx game then take a screen shot showing your score and post it here - highest score wins the point - you have 10 minutes.
I dunno - just an idea for a bit of fun
Send out some board emails to let people know what's happening on here

| It's not so much about that, it's more just general maintence time I could use on something else.
In theory this is a tool for our promotion but if anything this board scares people away (or members do) and is little more than a fuck about, which is fine in certain situations but generally doesn't aid much. I'm also creating a new site with articles that you can comment on so this effectively destroys any requirement for this forum.
We're open to suggestions, if enough people still want it then we might keep it but right now it's not looking good.

| I see what he's getting at - migrate the whole thing to CMS which gives CMS a boost and still keeps the whole Hermesh community together. But there's the thing - it is the HERMIT community which is quite an insular group of friends - I don't think anyone else would really 'get it'. We all know each other here and we know where the boundaries are.... or AREN'T in this case.
The underlying thing though is that apart from being mates hanging out on a forum, we ARE also fans of King Hermit as a band.
Maybe it would be a good idea to follow the CMS model in having two areas - one is the public 'fan' forum which is kept strictly clean and targeted ONLY at Hermit related or 'normal' topics, and an 'invisible' private members area which is what THIS part becomes.
We could all still have our merriment, but also we could all help populate the new area with chat that won't put new fans off - the kind of stuff that you're actually wanting people to see and get involved in.
This forum is a great laugh but it must be frustrating too when the thing is actually working AGAINST the whole purpose it was designed for.
That's why I think a 'clean', strictly moderated fan area would be such a good idea
