thought i'd share this with those who don't converse on the other side:

Hi Coventry people, people with instruments, and people with songwriterness.

I'm a bit sick of bands not having enough money to record their S%&* properly, it means we have to squash too much in to too little time, so I'm offering one band a full production session @ flipside recording studios coventry. You get to feel the full tour de force of our production prowess, regardless of how much it costs.

I'd like to really go to town with a single recording, so I imagine we're talking a few days on whichever track I pick.

here are my terms :

1) I'll give the session to someone who can send me a song that gets me excited about your potential
2) This is really for coventry peeps, or bands that gig in Cov. I wanna support my local scene.
3) When you reply to this post, you must insult me with your worst insult.

if you want it.. send me a demo or invite me to a gig to hear the song..

Is it free? doesn't really say. Also is there example of his work anywhere?

I've not heard anything that's come out of there. Bit of a fear that it could be another Born in a Barn. Pete's decent though so who knows.

in honesty i admire the way the KH crew stick to their guns on certain things (like this) even to the potential detriment of the band.

but in truth i'd say it would be foolish to pass up on an offer like this, even if the recordings turn out naff its all studio experience for nil dollar and the guy does seem to have a pro set up and he's prepared to throw time at it which is usually where a band goes wrong in ze studio.

hope we win, yet to go in a studio with EE!

We won something like this before, wouldn't be fair for us to win again.

and why is this? Why would it damage a band not to play the kasbah? Course we stick to our guns, I've said it before, there is better places to play than the Kasbah. I'll only sell tickets if theres something that we'll benefit from, otherwise it's one big con. For our date at the kasbah (as far as i know) we've not been asked to sell any tickets, which is cool by me.

come on Jim, you're an intelligent guy, surely you can see my point on this. You don't want a shot at a free recording in a £25 an hour studio with potentially a few days recording (say £600 worth) cos you refuse to log on to some forum as you have a beef with the owner who doesn't even go on there anymore

perhaps detriment is the wrong word as you won't be any worse off for not going for it, but you won't be any better off either. It'll be a case of 'as you were gents'

Firstly sorry if my last post came off snappy, i didn't intend it to but looking at it this morning it appears so. And yeah i see your point, and it's cool. I don't not log on to covscene cause i have beef with the owner, cause frankly i'm past caring about all that pettyness. It's a bloody good offer, espically for bands like GON who need studio time, we're already planning on recording ourselves so we're ok, but i see your point

I wouldn't call it a proper studio mind? The equipment list form what I recall is definitely a semi-pro arsenal. Runs ProTools LE with 003's for starters, not sure what A/D converter they have though. I'm always weary of a studio with no equipment list on their website!

Still, nice of them to do it although I think it would be a better deal for younger kids with no money! I only know Pete and I'm sure he'd do a good job, not heard anything from that studio or other engineers from there though.

end of the day, regardless of whether you have plans to record or not then i think its a great opportunity for any band

we've just finished one EP and 90% on the 2nd for a total of 14 songs but i still entered us, at the long shot of us winning i'd just choose a song we've just recorded (only cos we ain't got any more)

nice to see you both grouping EE with the younger inexperienced bands mind

I mean that I think for a studio like that kinda deal would be good for a younger band who aren't really 'there' yet. Just progressing and stuff. Would be a great first step for them.
