The film will be a direct prequel to Scott’s original 1979 film. In a 2002 interview, Scott wanted to return “to where the alien creatures were first found and explain how they were created.” Chances are this idea would also be incorporated into the reboot. Jon Spaihts will write the screenplay, a job he earned after pitching the studio and production company Scott Free. Spaihts has no produced credits, but has written Shadow 19 and Passengers, both of which are also sci-fi space thrillers.

Strangely, I feel a lot different about this project now that Scott is at the helm. Not only is Scott experienced, but he has done this before. So why is it that I feel less comfortable with Scott at the helm than an experienced commercial director? Maybe it is fear that Scott won’t be able to create something better than the original. Maybe it is fear that the film will be too much like the original, and I would have liked to see a completely different take. And maybe it is that I just don’t understand the idea of a filmmaker returning 30 years later to film a reboot.

And maybe it is that I fear that a Body of Lies-era Ridley Scott won’t produce anything close to the level of the original feature. I don’t think I’d ever want to see Martin Scorsese to film a prequel/reboot of Goodfellas. I expect a lot of the /Film commenters will disagree… so please explain to me why I should be excited about this.

The fact that Ridley Scott is onboard makes me very excited, big fan of the Alien franchise (even 3 which i think is underated). The fourth was ok but started to trail off into nonsense, i'm hopeful of a Batman Begins style reboot.

Might be good, but Sigourney's getting very old and let's not forget the latest Terminator - where even a spin off series wasn't enough. Time to quit Terminater franchise, you naughty boys. Ridley Scott's the man though, so dare I say, it will probably be better than the other 3.

Alien vs Predator was a little bit poo unall.

Alien vs Preditor has never, and will never exist in my mind.

What would be even better, would be Hollywood coming up with NEW ideas rather than remaking/reviving old ones

Don't hold your breath on this one - the concept has been so overworked there's nothing new going to come out of it.... oh, except we find out where the alien came from and frankly, who really gives a shit?

1 - excellent. 2 - still pretty damn good but you knew what to expect. 3 - pretty familiar by now, but still an ok film. 4 and everything else involving the alien - ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I saw Alien Vs Predator Requiem a while ago and you know what? I just didn't care.

Also, you're not REALLY buying into the bollocks Scott came out with in 2002 are you?.........

Nothing at all to do with the cash then? Course not - it's all for the 'Art' isn't it

There is a massive back story involving Aliens/Predators that has been totally untouched. If they use that info from the comics it could be good

Thing is, the alien is now so familiar that as a 'monster' it's not even mildly worrying anymore - it lurks in the dark, it kills people, and............erm.......slobbers a lot?

I'm actually much more interested in the story of the predators - there's a lot more mileage in that
